Jesus DeJesus charged with striking, killing woman crossing street

MILWAUKEE -- Charges were filed against Jesus DeJesus late Friday in connection with a fatal crash on Milwaukee's south side. Clementina Hernandez-Perez was struck and killed in the crash that happened near 6th and Grant on Monday, December 19th.

DeJesus was charged with one county of homicide by negligent operation of a vehicle and one count of knowingly operating while suspended causing death.

Hernandez-Perez was apparently pushing a stroller across the street when a car apparently driven by DeJesus hit them. Hernandez-Perez was killed, and the four-year-old boy in the stroller was hurt.
The criminal complaint indicates DeJesus told an investigating officer "a stroller hit the windshield of his vehicle and that he then stopped his vehicle and exited...(DeJesus) did not observe anyone crossing the street in front of him at any point while he was driving on S. 6th Street."
DeJesus faces up to ten years in prison and $25,000 in fines if convicted on the charges.
