"It's not an emergency:" Facebook, Instagram outage this week had folks calling 911!

CALIFORNIA (WITI) -- Facebook and Instagram were down early Tuesday, January 27th -- and that had some calling 911!

A 911 dispatcher in Claycord (Clayton & Concord), California says she fielded a handful of 911 calls from folks asking when Facebook and Instagram would be back online.

The dispatcher had this to say to Claycord.com:

“I just want to know if you can put a note out to Claycordians asking them to not call 911 when a website doesn’t work? We have nothing to do with Facebook and when Facebook isn’t working, it’s not an emergency. Our lines or dedicated to handle life and death calls, and even though Facebook is important to a lot of people, it’s not a matter of life and death when it stops working. One caller even called back to tell me I was being rude because I told her it wasn’t a life threatening emergency."

Claycord.com reports for future reference, the number for Facebook is 650-543-4800.
