"It was getting messy:" On warm days, it seems everyone has the same idea; get those cars cleaned!

GRAFTON (WITI) -- When the weather warms up like it did this weekend, it seems everyone has the same idea: get those dirty, grimy cars clean!

Full Service Car Wash in Grafton had a consistent line of cars waiting early Sunday, March 8th.

"Just getting it cleaned so I can actually see that it`s blue and not white!" Renee Knier said.

Knier says she only washes her car a couple times a year -- but she says Sunday's near 40-degree temperatures brought her out.

"In the winter I don`t like to because my car freezes up. The doors like to freeze," Knier said.

Tyler Leikam, the vice president of Full Service Car Wash says to avoid freezing doors, the key is to make sure the car is completely dry. He also advises giving the underbody a good wash.

"When the salt sits on your frame and components under your car it can really be corrosive," Leikam said.

A good car wash can take care of that.

Have you ever had the urge to wipe your fingers across a dirty car? It turns out that`s not very good for the car.

"It`s like little fine grits of sand. It etches the surface. It scratches it. If you could imagine a piece of sandpaper on a painted surface -- that`s kind of the same thing," Leikam said.

Many of Full Service Car Wash's customers say they've been anxious for a warmer day to get their cars looking new again.

"It had been a few weeks. All the snow and rain and stuff -- it was getting messy. For a week it'll be nice -- keep a nice, clean car hopefully," Ralph Boucher said.

Full Service Car Wash officials estimate nearly 100 cars an hour go through their facility on a busy day like Sunday was. Car mechanics encourage drivers also check their tire pressure and condition as we're likely to see more potholes on the road as temperatures warm up.
