It has happened again: What firefighters found missing from home after fire

FOND DU LAC (WITI) -- Fond du Lac Fire officials say one person was injured in a kitchen fire on Wednesday evening, April 23rd -- and once again, firefighters found no working smoke detectors in the home.

Fond du Lac firefighters installed two new smoke detectors in the home following the fire.

They say when they arrived on scene, just before 6:00 p.m., the met with residents who had safely evacuated the home on E. 2nd Street.

The residents informed firefighters they believed the fire was extinguished.

Fire crews found moderate smoke conditions throughout the home, and assisted with ventilation of the home.

The fire is believed to have originated in the kitchen.

One resident was injured while extinguishing the fire. That person was taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment -- but is expected to be okay.

“We urge all residents to comply with Wisconsin law which requires smoke alarms in residential dwellings. Each time our fire crews encounter a home without working smoke alarms, we will install new ones free of charge which we did before we left the house," Fire Chief Peter O’Leary said.

Firefighters will be canvassing the neighborhood surrounding the fire on Thursday providing fire safety information to nearby residents.
