Hundreds show up for job fair at Army National Guard Armory

MILWAUKEE -- The latest report from the state Department of Workforce Development shows unemployment dropped slightly in Wisconsin in December.

Still, hundreds showed up at a job fair Tuesday at the Wisconsin Army National Guard Armory.

The mini job fair was hosted by the Social Development Commission. Organizers expected around 200 people to attend, but they say they had more than 400 by late morning!

A lot of these people have theories about why the jobless numbers are going down. "A lot of the people, when they run out of their unemployment benefits, they basically fall off the charts that record unemployment - the true unemployment rate. Because they're no longer putting in their paperwork, they think 'oh, they must've gotten jobs,'" Ed Cooper said.

The latest National Unemployment Report shows the jobless rate at 8.3 percent. The next report is due in March.
