Home for the holidays: Adoption fees waived at MADACC and WHS in December

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission (MADACC) and the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) announced Monday, December 1st that adoption fees for all MADACC dogs and cats will be waived for the entire month of December.

More than 120 cats and 30 dogs will be available for adoption at MADACC, and about 100 additional MADACC animals will be available for adoption at WHS, MADACC’s largest transfer partner. It is the organizations’ first joint holiday promotion.

“Many families decide that the holidays are the perfect time to bring home a new family member. We want our animals to get the opportunity to be one of those lucky animals, and thanks to local philanthropist Stan Kass, we can make that happen,” said Karen Sparapani, executive director for MADACC.

MADACC and WHS work together on a daily basis to find homes for stray animals in Milwaukee County, and report that the partnership has never been stronger.

“Under Karen’s strong leadership, we've had the opportunity to work more closely with MADACC than ever before,” said Anne Reed, president and CEO of WHS, “and this exciting promotion is just an example of the work we are doing together to address animal homelessness in our community.”

MADACC and WHS are able to waive fees for MADACC animals after receiving a special gift from Skylark Vending specifically to be used for an impactful adoption event. The Kass family is very passionate about promoting shelter animals, as they are the proud adopters of Reggie, a Shepherd mix they adopted from the Wisconsin Humane Society. They want everyone to be able to experience the joy of bringing home a shelter animal, so they gave this gift to support the sterilization, vaccination, microchipping and adoption of approximately 250 animals.

Waived adoption fees include spay/neuter surgery, a microchip, and vaccines. Adopters complete in-person adoption counseling per the usual process.  Animals originally from MADACC available at WHS will have a special online memo to indicate their waived fee. Waived fees will not apply to other animals at WHS. A $12 license fee will apply for all Milwaukee County residents at MADACC.
