"Help Portrait" shows the needy their best moments

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Inside a homeless shelter you can hear the sound of a camera echoing through the hallway. There's a line of people there, looking into a mirror and dressed in their best clothing for a professional picture. The volunteers of "Help Portrait Milwaukee" help to make that happen.

A handful of professional and amateur photographers donate their time to help. For the last few years they've held events at shelters taking pictures of the needy. The pictures are free of change and can be used as holiday cards for friends and family.

Some in the line have never had their picture taken by professionals -- It's simply too expensive.

Volunteers say seeing the joy a photograph brings can be overwhelming.
