MILWAUKEE -- What is becoming a back-to-school tradition began Monday, August 10th: Backpack Buddies are now on sale!
Since 2008, Balistreri-owned Sendik's Food Markets and Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin have been selling Backpack Buddies.
All proceeds go towards the purchase of backpacks filled with school supplies for kids in need.
You can get two Backpack Buddies for $10, and this year, there are some new buddies for kids to pick up.
"We have Sven and Olaf and we have some fabulous My Little Ponies in all different colors and of course sock monkeys, which are always very exciting too. A lot of boys don't want a My Little Pony so we have an Iron Man and we have a Spider-Man I believe," Margaret Harris, Sendik's co-owner said.
Last year, more than 700 backpacks filled with supplies were given out to kids in need. This year, organizers hope they'll be able to give out more than 1,000.
