Health official confirms three more cases of TB in Sheboygan Co.

SHEBOYGAN COUNTY (WITI) -- A public health supervisor with the Sheboygan County Health and Human Services Department confirmed Thursday, May 9th there are three more cases of tuberculosis in the Sheboygan Area School District.

This, after a case was discovered in a Sheboygan student at the end of April.

The student initially diagnosed with tuberculosis attends Sheboygan South High School. Two of the three most recently released attend the same school, while the third case comes from Horace Mann Middle School.

Officials say all three students have been isolated, and are family members to the original Sheboygan South student that contracted TB.

A preliminary round of tests when the first case surfaced said that the disease had not spread. A public health supervisor says there is not a high risk for others contracting the disease.  However, the Sheboygan County Health and Human Services Department is not taking any chances, and is taking every precaution they can.

They are also working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and the state health department on these cases of TB.

A briefing is planned for Friday, May 10th at the Sheboygan Area School District Administration Office.
