Hartford police: Firearms stolen from several vehicle break-ins
HARTFORD -- The Hartford Police Department since July 17th it has investigated several vehicle break-ins where firearms were stolen. The vehicles were not forcibly entered.
Officials indicated on the Hartford police Facebook page that the owners of the vehicles left their firearms (several in some cases) in their vehicles.
On Friday, July 29th, officials reported that one subject has been arrested regarding several of the incidents -- and that stolen firearms taken in those incidents have been recovered.
Officials say at this point, "all of these thefts from vehicles were crimes of opportunity. Universally, these incidents have occurred involving vehicles that were left unlocked." A news release goes on to say, "We have no information to indicate that the target of these thefts were the firearms, but rather that the firearms appeared to have been inadvertently left inside the unsecured vehicles."
Hartford police stress that gun owners SHOULD NOT leave firearms in their vehicles.
lf anyone has any information regarding these offenses, or anyone finds that their vehicle has been targeted by these thefts, please contact the Hartford Police Department at 262-673-2600.
