Gun popularity on the rise in Wisconsin
The first day of business starts with a bang at Wisconsin's new, largest guns store on Saturday. The Gander Mountain gun-only store is simply called "Gun World." It's opening just weeks after concealed carry went into effect in Wisconsin.
However, the store says the reason it chose the state for it's prototype store isn't political. Morgan Colby of Gander Mountain says, "We started in Wisconsin, we opened 1960 and it started as a shooting store, so it's kind of going back to that legacy."
The store is about 30,000 square ft. and has around 5,000 different kinds of guns available.
Hundreds of shoppers were there checking out the gun counter. Some were loading up for next week's gun deer season. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is predicting a strong turn out for the nine day long hunt.
One of the outdoor's biggest advocates, Greg Strube, took part in the store's opening. He also hosts a television show on the sportsman channel.
"The right to bear arms, I really support it, but I really think we better treat it like a privilege. We better treat it responsibly and ethically and safely, or else we'll lose that too."
On Saturday, there also was a gun show at the Waukesha Expo Center, which lasts until Sunday. Next month there is another show planned.
