Gov. Walker previews National Governors Association special meeting

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The National Governors Association is hosting its summer meeting in Milwaukee, and Gov. Scott Walker sat down with FOX6 News to preview the high-profile meeting.

FOX6's Mike Lowe: "I want to begin -- if you can tell us -- just how Milwaukee, how Wisconsin landed the National Governors Association summer meeting?

Gov. Scott Walker: "We had to compete for this. My wife and I met with our tourism agency at the state Department of Tourism. We went to visit Milwaukee and they played a critical role in helping us make the case that we could really showcase not only Wisconsin, but a great place for the governors."

Mike Lowe: "What are some of the highlight's you're hoping to showcase?"

Gov. Walker: "We're going to take the first night to Miller Park, they'll be on the field. The second night -- in honor of Harley-Davidson's 110th Anniversary, and because I'm a rider the other governors who ride will be joining me."

Mike Lowe: "Not quite the Hell's Angels."

Gov. Walker: "No, not quite, but we'll come roaring in down at the Harley Museum, kind of like our own little version of the Harley Parade. Then the last night we'll be on the Lakeshore, showing off Pier Wisconsin and Discovery World."

Mike Lowe: Your critics have said that you're dumping on Milwaukee -- that some of your policies have hurt Milwaukee. Does this answer that, in some way? Bringing the conference here?"

Gov. Walker: "When push comes to shove, I love Milwaukee. I love to show it off. These aren't just attractions that someone else picked. These are venues I was specifically involved in picking."

Mike Lowe: "I looked up the mission of the NGA, and it says to promote leadership and speak with a collective voice on issues of national significance. How does the group made up of people with different ideologues and political philosophies speak with a collective voice?"

Gov. Walker: "On things where we disagree, like the Affordable Care Act, it's really about fully informing the debate. We learn best practices from other governors."

Mike Lowe: "Governor, thank you for your time. Have a great weekend with the other governors."

Gov. Walker: "Thanks, should be exciting."
