"Girl power" at Milwaukee's City Hall: Girl's Day event pairs girls with women in the community

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- There was plenty of "girl power" Wednesday, March 18th at Milwaukee's City Hall.

City leaders hosted a "Girl's Day" event -- pairing girls with young women in the community.

The event is supposed to encourage girls to pursue careers in public service and elected office.

Alderwoman Milele Coggs who planned the "Girl's Day" event says she hopes this event will lead to more female leaders in Milwaukee.

"Today you will get to a plethora of women who are doing great work in public service, who are just like you, but they decided to use their life and their career and their profession to give back to the community through public service and/or public office," Coggs said.

More than 150 young women took part in Wednesday's event.
