Funeral arrangements set for fallen Appleton firefighter

APPLETON -- The funeral arrangements for fallen Appleton Firefighter Mitchell Lundgaard have been announced.

A procession will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, May 20, at Brettschneider-Trettin-Nickel Funeral Chapel, located at 606 N Oneida Street in Appleton, going to Appleton Alliance Church, located at 2693 West Grand Chute Boulevard in Grand Chute.

The public is encouraged to line the boulevards of the route to show their support.

A visitation will follow from 3 to 6 p.m., at Appleton Alliance Church.

A private funeral service for family will be held beginning at 6 p.m. and is not open to the public.

When private services conclude, a large procession including emergency vehicles from across the region will travel back to the funeral chapel. The public is once again encouraged to line the route to show their support.

Appleton's City Hall officers will close in the afternoon so all employees can attend.

Lundgaard was shot when he responded to a medical emergency at the downtown transit center in Appleton Wednesday evening. Lundgaard was a 14-year veteran of the department, and left behind a wife and three young children.
