Fuel-efficient vehicles the big draw at the 2014 Milw. Auto Show

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The 2014 Greater Milwaukee Auto Show kicked off on Saturday, February 22nd, with hundreds of the latest cars, trucks, crossovers, hybrids, SUVs and more on display at the Wisconsin Center in downtown Milwaukee. The Auto Show runs through March 2nd, and offers a fun, interactive environment where folks are able to hop behind the wheel of the latest models on the show floor.

Some of the highlights of the 2014 Greater Milwaukee Auto Show include:

As the 2014 Greater Milwaukee Auto Show got underway this weekend, organizers say attendance is up five percent as compared with last year. Organizers see the show as a big boost to Milwaukee's economy.

"Over the term of the Auto Show - about nine days - it`s in excess of about $1 million," Jim Tolkan, the president of the Auto Dealers Association said.

And that's just from people doing a little high-end window shopping.

"I`m looking for something that has good visibility and good fuel efficiency," an Auto Show visitor told FOX6 News on Sunday.

Car dealers say small, fuel efficient cars are once again the big draw. Fuel efficiency is something Larry Oakes says is a must when he's considering a new ride.

"I got to have 35 mpg.  In all my Corollas, they average 42 on the highway," Oakes said.

Visitors are allowed to test drive several of the vehicles on display -- as, at the end of the day, it is all about finding a vehicle that is a good fit in terms of comfort, driveability and style.

The Greater Milwaukee Auto Show runs through March 2nd.

Admission is $11 for adults ages 13 and older, $8 for seniors and students with ID, $8 for children ages seven to 12, and $5 for children six and under.

On Family Day, Saturday, March 2nd, children 12 and under will receive free admission with a paying adult.
