Free skate rentals! Enjoy some warmer temperatures at Slice of Ice this weekend!

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- With warmer weather expected this weekend, Milwaukee County Parks is inviting the public to skate for free at Slice of Ice inside Red Arrow Park in downtown Milwaukee on Thursday, March 5th, with free skate rentals from 2:00-8:00 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, March 6th and 7th, all are invited to gather round the firepit to toast s’mores from 2:00-10:00 p.m.

Slice of Ice, voted “Milwaukee’s Best Place to Skate” three years in a row, is located in Red Arrow Park, at 920 N. Water Street.

Patrons may purchase s’mores kits at the firepit, while supplies last. Each kit contains ingredients for the traditional graham-cracker/chocolate/marshmallow sandwich, a roasting stick, and wet wipes for easy cleanup. Kits are $3 for a single serving or $10 for a kit that serves four. Carry-ins are not allowed at the firepit.

The rink opens daily at 11:00 a.m. Patrons who bring their own ice-skates skate for free. Skates may be rented for $7 per pair for ages 17 and under, and $8 per pair for adults.

Comfortably accommodating 100 skaters at a time, the 128-by-95-foot refrigerated oval is open through March if the weather allows. The rink is bordered by a 3-foot-6-inch railing, so even the skaters with weak ankles can come out to enjoy the ice.

Slice of Ice is a popular destination for school field trips. Field trips may be scheduled through March 13th.

Inside the warming house, a facility shared with Starbucks, is a photo booth and an ATM for skaters’ convenience.

Rink hours are Monday-Thursday, 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.; Friday-Saturday, 11:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.; and Sunday, 11:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.
