Franklin school reopens after stomach bug outbreak

FRANKLIN (WITI) -- Pleasant View Elementary School in Franklin reopened on Monday morning, May 20th.

The school was closed on Friday due to a high number of gastroenteritis illnesses -- otherwise known as a stomach bug. Officials counted 50 people with symptoms.

The Franklin Health Department and the Wisconsin Department of Health Services are trying to determine the cause of these illnesses. Custodial staff has worked extra hours to clean the school.

Parents were urged to not send their child to school if they are exhibiting any of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and occasionally low-grade fever.  Students and staff who have these symptoms cannot return to school until being symptom-free for 48 hours
