Franklin garage fire burns two collectible cars, damage estimated at $200,000

FRANKLIN -- A Franklin family loses two collectible cars and a garage, after one of the cars catches fire. The estimated damage is $200,000.

The scene of the fire was in the 11200 block of W. Bel Mar Drive on Thursday, August 20th.

The vehicle's owner says he was working on his 1984 Monte Carlo when it caught fire. He tried to put the flames out with two small fire extinguishers but was unsuccessful.

No one was hurt and the house next door was not damaged.

"The detached garage is only about 12 feet from the house, we were able to protect that right away, make sure there was no damage to the house or the people who live there," said Franklin battalion Chief, Paul Rynders.

Crews from Cudahy, Greendale, Greenfield, Hales Corners and Oak Creek helped respond to this fire.

While the auto work is being blamed, the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation.
