FOX6 News gets sneak peek at new Fisher House for veterans ahead of ribbon cutting

MILWAUKEE -- FOX6 News on Thursday, March 31st got a sneak peek at the new Fisher House for veterans.

Crews have been working on the Fisher House for the last two years.

The building is within walking distance of the Milwaukee VA Medical Center.

The Fisher House is a place for veterans and their families to stay while receiving care at the VA Medical Center. Families get access to private suites, including a fully-stocked kitchen, a living room, a library and toys for children -- free of charge, thanks to the Fisher House Foundation.

"It's like a dream come true to be able to provide this option of free lodging, free accommodation which takes away so much of the stress or worry when you already have that on your mind when your family member is in the hospital," Jennifer Kiefer said.

The ribbon cutting ceremony is scheduled for April 23rd.

Fisher House officials are expecting a crowd of nearly 1,000 for that ceremony.

The Fisher House Foundation builds homes across the country. Milwaukee's is the 65th Fisher House.
