Fond du Lac raises money to rebuild fire-damaged playground

FOND DU LAC (WITI) -- On May 12th, vandals burned the playground equipment at Hamilton Park.  The Hamilton Park not only serves the neighborhood residents, but is a popular destination for the Boys & Girls Club and YMCA. The park is also home to the City of Fond du Lac’s Public Safety Memorial.

The Fond du Lac community has responded to this senseless crime by voicing their love of the park and raising funds to replace the equipment.

Donors will be honored by proclamation at the City Council meeting on June 26.

The donors include: Charmaine Luczak - $10.00, Domino’s Pizza - $314.00, Sandra Ritchie - $366.00, Fond du Lac Firefighters’ Local 400 Charitable Fund - $500.00 and The Stone Foundation - $10,000.00. Between the donations and the insurance and grant funds, the City is confident that the playground will be bigger and better than ever.

“It’s our goal to turn this deplorable incident into a positive outcome for our community.  We look forward to having the new equipment installed by the end of the summer,” noted Parks & Forestry Superintendent John Kiefer.

John Kiefer and his staff are currently arranging for the procurement of new equipment and selecting a design.  Local contractor BCI Burke will be designing, constructing and installing the equipment.

The City Council meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. in the Legislative Chambers of the City/County Government Center on Wednesday, June 26.
