MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police on Wednesday morning, June 11th were involved in a vehicle pursuit that ended near N. 106th and W. Wisconsin Avenue in Wauwatosa around 1:00 a.m. Five teenagers are now in custody.
Milwaukee police officers were on patrol in the area of N. 45th and W. Center Streets early Wednesday morning when they heard several gunshots.
The officers began to search the area for potential victims and suspects -- when they spotted a minivan driving from the direction where the officers heard the shots.
The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop -- but the driver fled from the marked police vehicle.
Suspecting the occupants of the van were the shots fired suspects, the officers engaged in a pursuit of the vehicle.
The van's driver led police down city streets, onto the freeway, and onto city streets again -- continuing into Wauwatosa.
The driver stopped the van in the area of N. 106th and W. Wisconsin Avenue -- and six suspects exited the van. They then fled on foot.
MPD officers were assisted by Wauwatosa officers and deputies from the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office in their search for the suspects.
Police say three 17-year-old males and two 16-year-old males are currently in custody. All of the teens are from Milwaukee.
Police are currently seeking the sixth suspect in this case.
Police say their preliminary investigation indicates shots were exchanged between one or more occupants of the van and another suspect who was outside the van during an apparent dispute.
No one was injured.
