First-grader's school desk is gone! She was told she won't get it back until second grade -- but why?!
HOUSTON (WITI) -- The mother of a first-grade student is upset -- claiming her daughter's desk at school was removed as a form of punishment.
It happened at Westwood Elementary School in Houston, Texas.
FOX6's sister station KHOU reports the girl's mother says the girl drew a picture on her desk -- and got into trouble.
The girl's mother says she received an email from the girl's teacher about the incident.
"She lost her recess. She went to the principal's office and then she had to wash the desk -- and that was it. I was never told that the desk was removed," the girl's mother told KHOU.
The next day, the girl's mother says the girl's school desk...was gone!
The girl was reportedly told she won't be getting her desk back until she's in second grade.
The girl was forced to sit on the floor for more than four weeks before she told her parents what was happening.
"I asked her -- 'why did you not tell me?' And she said 'I was too scared to tell you, Mama.' She thought what she had done was so bad, she didn't deserve to have a desk," the girl's mother said.
KHOU reports school officials investigated and reprimanded the teacher for her classroom management.
KHOU reports the school also issued this statement: “The family has been offered multiple opportunities to transfer their child, either to another teacher within the school or to any elementary school in the district where enrollment is not capped.”
