Firefighters battle flames and high temperatures in Walworth Co.

WALWORTH CO. -- Some firefighters in Walworth County couldn't get a break from the heat, and that wasn't the worst part about the weather for them. Firefighters had to contend with high winds while trying to subdue a three-alarm fire at a Walworth county farm.

The blaze broke out around 2:30 PM off of Loveland Rd. near Bowers Rd. First responders worked in heavy gear and hot conditions, which created a concern beyond the fire. Elkhorn Area Fire Department Fire Chief Rod Smith says, "We kept enough crews here. We rotated 'em in and out every 15 minutes so nobody got heat exhaustion or anything like that."

Fire Chief Smith said there were no injures, and dry conditions did not affect this fire.

At least seven fire departments and heavy equipment were called to this barn fire. The heavy equipment helped firefighters get through debris, and unearth hot spots. That same heavy equipment dug up the charred remains of a Volkswagen bug.

Fire investigators have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
