Fire causes extensive damage to Fond du Lac hotel, two treated for smoke inhalation

FOND DU LAC (WITI) -- The Fond du Lac Fire Department responded to a fire at the Comfort Inn at 77 Holiday Lane just after 9 a.m.  Friday, July 18th.

Upon arrival, smoke and flames were visible on the exterior of the 78-unit hotel.

Officials say the fire caused extensive damage to the exterior of the structure, roof and overhang components of the attached pool.

Two people were transported to the hospital for signs and symptoms of smoke inhalation.

A preliminary investigation shows the area of origin appears to be located by an outside exit door where a garbage can was located.

However, the cause of the fire is unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.

The hotel is uninhabitable at this time and cleaning crews are in process to get the hotel back in service.

The Fond du Lac Fire Department called in off-duty personnel along with activation of the (MABAS) Mutual Aid Box Alarm System which brought in several neighboring fire departments to assist on-scene and to provide coverage throughout the city.
