Fiery wreck: Car strikes power pole, catches fire at Grafton intersection, driver arrested



GRAFTON -- A car struck a transformer and a pole at the intersection of Highway V and Arrowhead Rd. in Grafton on Monday evening, August 17th. The result -- the car is a total loss and power was knocked out to those living nearby.

Officials say the crash happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. It's unclear how the car ran off the roadway. But the driver, a 17-year-old girl from Grafton,  got out of the vehicle safely assistance from a passerby. She was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The driver was arrested for operating while impaired.

Power to the area around this incident was cut off in order to allow the fire and crash to be handled.

We Energies, the Grafton Fire Department, and the Grafton Police Department all responded to the scene. Power was restored around 8:15 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
