Fathers and daughters bond at Daddy-Daughter Dance

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Hundreds of fathers and daughters shared a special night Saturday, February 15th at the Daddy-Daughter Dance put on by the Milwaukee Recreation Department and Social Development Commission.

A sold out crowd of 800 fathers and daughters packed the North Division High School for a night of dinner and dancing.

"You just get to spend the night with your daughter with a couple hundred people having fun," said Chris Dee.

Organizers say the event is a bonding experience for dads and their girls.

"A father spending that time with the daughter, really being their first date is a really important task for a dad to do," said organizer Percy Eddie.

While many daughters say their favorite part of the night is dancing with their dad, the fathers are working to set positive examples for their little ones.

"This is a lifetime experience for her. It also gives her some idea of how she should be treated as she goes through her journey in life," said Rodney Banks.

"She should be looking for somebody in her life who will treat her this well on a daily basis," said Dee.

Saturday's event saw the largest crowd in its 11 year history. Many of those in attendance say they're already looking forward to next year.
