Donald Driver announces new awards program

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- It's not just his work on the football field that has given people something to cheer about.

Donald Driver has also done a lot to give back to the community that has embraced him throughout his career as a Green Bay Packer.

Now, he wants to recognize all of the other people who work hard to make this world a better place.

"They never get a standing ovation like I do at Lambeau, but I really want to shine a light on those people. I know they`re heroes of Wisconsin," says Driver.

Driver created the "Driven to Achieve Awards."

The recipients of these awards will be selected through nominations showing they have made a difference through volunteering, mentoring, or fundraising.

"That will recognize community leaders not just here but everywhere that is also making an impact and a difference today while inspiring future community leaders of tomorrow," says Driver.

Driver is teaming up with BMO Harris Bank for the awards program.

BMO Harris Bank supports the Donald Driver Foundation, which helps families living in poverty.

"We know that ending the cycle of poverty is a very complicated issue and we know that there are many great organizations and individuals who are tackling these tough issues," says BMO Harris Bank Executive Vice President Brad Chaplin.

Although Driver has now retired from the NFL, he never plans to turn his back on Wisconsin.

"I keep telling them that I`m not going anywhere regardless of me being retired I`ll still be the face of Wisconsin," says Driver.

A total of 8 awards will be given to state-wide and national winners annually. The first awards ceremony will take place in the spring 2014.
