Deonte Weathers charged in connection with theft of car at Racine dealership

Deonte Weathers
MILWAUKEE -- A 17-year-old Milwaukee boy is now charged in connection with the theft of a car from Racine Hyundai. The accused is Deonte Weathers -- he faces one count of operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent.
According to the criminal complaint, officers "observed a 2016 blue Hyundai Accent with no plates traveling north N. 75th St." on Wednesday, July 13th. Officers noticed that upon the people in the car viewing the squad, the car accelerated, "driving through the dead-end" and into a yard on N. 75th St. Four people, including Weathers, jumped out of the vehicle and fled.
One of the officers approached the vehicle -- and observed that it was still in drive. The complaint says when the officer "attempted to place the car into park, the car rolled backward causing (the officer) to be partially run over by the vehicle as it traveled backward down the hill, striking a pole causing the passenger door that (the officer) was standing in to open all the way until the door was pressed tight to the front panel of the vehicle." The officer suffered scrapes and swelling to his face as a result of this incident.
All four individuals were caught after running from the vehicle.
Weathers spoke to police and according to the criminal complaint, he "admitted (another person) told him that he bought the car for $50.00 and that he figured it was stolen."
If convicted, Weathers faces up to three-and-a-half years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
