Democratic state Rep. Robert Turner retiring

MADISON (AP) -- Democratic state Rep. Robert Turner, of Racine, will not seek re-election.

The 64-year-old Turner announced his decision Wednesday. He joins four Republicans, one Democrat and one independent who have all announced they will not seek re-election in November. Four other state representatives, one Republican and three Democrats, are not seeking re-election because they are running for other offices.

Turner has been in the Assembly for 22 years, first winning election in 1990. He also previously served on the Racine city Council from 1976 to 2004.

Republicans currently control the Assembly 59-39-1.
