Aunt remembers woman killed in Cameo Care Center murder-suicide
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A crisis team was on hand at the Cameo Care Center Tuesday, August 20th -- a nursing facility and assisted living center just north of 27th and Ramsey. This, after a former employee and current resident was shot and killed in a murder-suicide incident Monday evening, August 19th.
Officials say 56-year-old Allen Silva entered the Cameo Care Center around 5:00 p.m. and shot and killed an acquaintance, 59-year-old Debbie Tyszko. Then, Silva took out a knife and stabbed himself.
Geraldine Tyszko was shocked to learn her niece was victim to a murder.
"I`ll probably be thinking about this for a long time. It's family, and to have something like that happen is just unbelievable," Geraldine Tyszko said.
Officials say Silva signed in at the center Monday evening to visit Tyszko.
"It's quite a shock as I absorb it. I've never had anyone in the family with this kind of a drastic end," Geraldine Tyszko said.
Geraldine Tyszko says she is still coming to grips with the fact that her niece was killed by a friend, saying the woman didn't have many.
"She was a very quiet person and kept to herself. I felt sorry for her then because she was somewhat of a loner. To have this happen, whether this was a boyfriend or someone she knew, what the circumstances were I have no idea, it`s a terrible way to be taken away," Geraldine Tyszko said.
Staff at the facility say Tyszko previously worked at the center as a part-time receptionist for about six or seven years. Then, she had a health episode which required her to get rehab. With little family close by, Tyszko became a resident of the facility.
A crisis team is on hand at the Cameo Care Center to assist with counseling for those who need it.
Via it's website, Cameo Care Center is a 112 bed skilled and rehabilitation nursing facility with a 23 bed assisted living facility, Cameo Court. Cameo Court is where Monday's murder-suicide occurred.
Cameo is a family-owned and operated facility that has over a 50-year history of providing security and peace of mind in a caring and respectful atmosphere.
Until May 2006, Cameo consisted solely as a skilled nursing facility.
Recognizing the community need for greater access to assisted living and other services, Cameo expanded and opened 23 assisted living suites in May 2006.
