Crews respond to scene of water main break in Oak Creek

OAK CREEK (WITI) -- The Oak Creek Water Department was called to the scene of a "significant water main break" in the 10300 block of S. Chicago Road (Highway 32) Thursday morning, October 3rd.

The call came in around 4:00 a.m.

Officials say about 200 customers had their water service impacted by the water main break.

The site was investigated, and it was discovered to be a leak in a 16-inch water main built in 1979, and the cause of the leak was corrosion -- despite the fact that the pipe was wrapped in a protective plastic coating.

Officials believe the corrosion is due to soil conditions.

Repairs are underway.
