Chicago mother was apparently running from armed robbers when she was hit by truck & killed

CHICAGO -- A Chicago woman who was fleeing from an armed robbery with her boyfriend has died after she was hit by a truck on Lake Shore Drive.

Chicago Police Officer Laura Amezaga says a 32-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man were approached by a group of males in the Gold Coast neighborhood early Sunday morning, May 29th.

The group announced a robbery and one of the males had a handgun.

The woman and her boyfriend tried to run away. Both were hit by a pickup truck in the southbound lanes of Lake Shore Drive.

Amezaga says the woman was pronounced dead at a hospital, and the man is in stable condition.

WGN has identified the female victim as Pamela Johnson. She leaves behind a 12-year-old son, according to WGN.

No one is in custody and authorities are investigating.

According to WGN, there are some inconsistencies in the details regarding what led up to the fatal crash, and family members of Johnson are asking that the driver who hit her help investigators.

The incident happened a few blocks east of the city's Magnificent Mile shopping area -- and followed a deadly shooting on Lake Shore Drive early Sunday. According to WGN, 15-year-old Veronica Lopez was killed and a 28-year-old man who was driving a Jeep Cherokee was hurt in that incident.
