Charged: Two Racine mothers accused because their children have been truant

RACINE (WITI) -- Two Racine mothers are charged -- accused of allowing their children to be truant dozens of times during this school year.

43-year-old Rosa Sha Vonne Carter faces seven misdemeanor charges of failure/cause child to attend school.

25-year-old Shatrece Johnson faces five misdemeanor charges of failure/cause child to attend school.

A truancy means any absence of part or all of one or more days from school without legal cause.

According to the criminal complaint against each of these women, each separate count against represents five (5) truancies. The complaint says the Racine Unified School District has attempted to meet with the women. However, those attempts have been unsuccessful because the women have "not cooperated."
