CHARGED: Man evaded police & ended up in River Hills, now jailed

OZAUKEE COUNTY (WITI) -- A 23-year-old Milwaukee man has been formally charged in connection with a chase and crash that occurred on Friday, May 9th.

Larry Pettigrew faces a number of charges -- including four counts of manufacturing/delivering heroin (less than three grams) fleeing and eluding an officer, possession with intent to deliver heroin, and possession with intent to deliver cocaine.

All seven charges against Pettigrew are felony charges.

Pettigrew was being investigated for distributing heroin -- and Sheriff's deputies planned to arrest him in Mequon Friday morning.

However, Pettigrew evaded police by taking off in an SUV.

Officials say Pettigrew traveled south on I-43 before wrecking his SUV while exiting onto Good Hope Rd.

Pettigrew then rain from the crash scene and into a wooded area. He eventually entered a home near Green Tree Rd. in River Hills -- and someone was home.

"One shoe on, he was covered in dirt and he had obviously been running from something, he was completely out of breath," Nicholas, who was home at the time, told FOX6 News.

Nicholas did not call police -- so he wouldn't upset Pettigrew.

"A cop showed up in my drive way. He saw me through the window, waving him in and next thing I know, he's inside and they got me out of there," Nicholas said.

Pettigrew was taken into custody with the help of a K-9 officer.

Pettigrew was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries -- and was then booked into the Ozaukee County Jail.

Pettigrew continues to be held in the Ozaukee County Jail on a $75,000 cash bail.
