Greendale residents take issue with The Rock Sports Complex

FRANKLIN (WITI) -- A dispute between residents of Greendale and The Rock Sports Complex may be coming to an end as one county official is stepping in, hoping to bring peace and allow the complex to move forward.

The complex sits on a 144-acre redeveloped landfill near S 76th St. Although most of the property is located in Franklin, portions also lie within Greendale.

Some residents are taking issue with bright lights from the baseball fields shining into their homes, as well as loud noises from the area.

The Village also threatened The Rock with a lawsuit back in June, due to the fact that a permit was never obtained for their Gravity Biking Trail, which is located in Greendale.

"That kind of went away because certain things were taken care of. Now you have a situation where this is maybe the last hurdle," said Milwaukee County Supervisor Steve Taylor.

Taylor is hoping the last of the issues will be cleared up sometime in the coming week.

"I've spoken with Village President Hermes twice yesterday and the Village Manager Tom Michaels yesterday and the conversations went very, very well," said Taylor.

John Hermes, Village President, issued a statement saying: "We're looking forward to finalizing the final details. Things are looking good."

Some of those details include changes around the area to cut down on lights and noise.

"They're going to plant some trees along the median on 76th, and some additional trees to break things up on the east side of the property line," explained Taylor.

The County Executive says that money from the county will be put aside to cover the costs. The trees are expected to be planted later next week.
