Changes made at Behavioral Health Hospital following death of patient

MILWAUKEE -- There are big changes at Milwaukee County's Behavioral Health Hospital. The county has accepted the resignation of a physician, the retirements of the Medical Director and a nurse practitioner.  The Director of Nursing has also been demoted.

The changes come following the death of 25-year-old Brandon Johnson.  He died at the Mental Health Facility.  The Milwaukee County sheriff said he died of a blood clot, the result of a broken neck.

"We want to know how these people were involved, what happened, what they did or didn't do," Jonathan Safran, the family's attorney said.

Safran said the shake-up has left Johnson's family with more questions.

"They desperately want to know what happened and they want anyone that would be responsible to be held accountable, whether it be by way of criminal charges or certainly by way of discipline," Safran said.

County Executive Chris Abele released a statement Friday night.

"We will continue to work to make the hospital the safest environment possible," County Executive Chris Abele said in a written press release.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's Department, district attorney's office and the Milwaukee Police Department continue to investigate Johnson's death.
