Center in Pewaukee offering help for Golden Guernsey workers

WAUKESHA -- The Workforce Development Center in Pewaukee says it is planning to work with the 100 people who recently lost their jobs at the Golden Guernsey Dairy plant in Waukesha. The center is planning "rapid response" orientations arranged specifically for the workers who were laid off on Saturday, January 5th without notice.

Resume reviews are one of the services offered at the center in Pewaukee. They're also a part of the program officials are putting together for Golden Guernsey Dairy's former employees.

While the staff in Pewaukee hopes to see a big crowd next week, the parking lot at Golden Guernsey Dairy was silent on Tuesday, January 8th. It was a departure from this weekend and early this week, when small groups of employees gathered outside, looking for answers, and at the very least, a chance to go inside and get their stuff. 

However, none of that has happened.

As word spread of the planned orientations in Pewaukee, Francisco Sanchez said many employees have called the center. Although they want a new job, they need money to pay the next round of bills. 

"They are most interested about unemployment. Obviously we will provide them with all the information about unemployment and they will be able to file for unemployment here at this location," Sanchez said.

Sanchez says location should also provide hope for the shut out workers. 

"One of the good things about our area is we do have a good number of openings," Sanchez said.

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development says it still hasn't been able to reach the plant's owner, OpenGate Capital. The L.A.-based investment firm has not returned calls from FOX6 News.
