MILWAUKEE -- Cedar Crest Specialties, Inc. is recalling THREE ice cream flavors due to potential contamination with Listeria.
This voluntary recall was announced on Friday, November 11th.
According to a statement from Cedar Crest officials, the following flavors are being recalled:
Cedar Crest was notified on November 10th that the cookie dough in the above-referenced products, which is manufactured by Aspen Hills, Inc., has the potential to be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The affected products were distributed in retail stores throughout the Midwest.
Cedar Crest Specialties is taking immediate steps to recall all affected products, as a voluntary, preventative safety measure.
Customers who have purchased Cedar Crest Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Monster Cookie and/or Pirate's Bounty flavors, bearing the affected product code dates and container sizes, are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
