Caught on cam: Man rescued from floating piece of ice on Wolf River

NEW LONDON (WITI) -- New London firefighters rescued an 18-year-old man from a piece of ice floating down the Wolf River on Friday evening, March 20th.

The entire incident captured on video and posted to YouTube by user Ali Garrigan.

New London fire officials say this story played out just after 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Firefighters responded to a report of a boy stuck on a piece of ice floating down the river. When they got on scene, the firefighters put on ice rescue suits and swam out to the boy -- with a floating ice rescue sled. They were able to guide him onto the sled.

The 18-year-old told officers he stepped onto the ice up river when it floated away in the strong current. He was not hurt in this incident.
