"Catch Me If You Can:" Bradford students selected to perform in Thespian Festival

KENOSHA (WITI) -- School's out for summer, except for these young actors.

"Everyday it's basically 9am - 6pm," said Junior Mialee St. Peter who plays Brenda Strong in the play.

But the students at Bradford High School aren't complaning about it.

They're one of only ten schools chosen in the nation to perform at the main stage at the Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska.

"It's like a giant rock concert energy when you perform in front of all of these kids because these are people who understand theater and love theater," said Director Holly Stanfield.

The students will be performing "Catch Me If You Can" in front of about 3,500 people at the festival.

When students got the news, they were thrilled.

"We're at school and we get a text from our stage managers and it's like we're going and we all like make a big fuss in the classroom," said Junior Joey Belotti who plays Carl Hanratty.

They're working hard rehearsing this week, because there will be no time for that when they get to Lincoln.

They have to haul all their sets and props and they're only given 2 hours to set everything up on stage, making for a long day.

"They do two performances and then at about one o'clock at night we shut down the performances and we take everything off the stage and put it back in the truck and we're done at 2:30," said Stanfield.

Bradford High School is no stranger to the Thespian Festival, this will be their 11th time being featured at the event.

"It was absolutely amazing. It was so much fun and such a great experience ," said St. Peter.

Making for a dramatic start to the summer.

The students will perform "Catch Me If You Can" to the public Friday, June 20th and Saturday, June 21st at Bradford High School.

Both shows start at 7:30 p.m.

Then the students head to Lincoln, Nebraska for the Thespian Festival on Sunday night.
