Boy survives kidnapping by doing something that he says "annoyed" suspect

ATLANTA (WITI) -- A 10-year-old Atlanta boy is being celebrated after he was able to escape a kidnapping! He did it by singing a song of praise over and over and over again.

Little Willie Myrick was nine years old when he was kidnapped from his driveway in Atlanta earlier this month.

Myrick says his kidnapper drove him around for hours -- and all the while, he sang a song of praise. The song is called "Every Praise" by Hezekia Walker.

The lyrics include: "God my Savior, God my Healer, God my Deliverer, Yes He is, yes He is."

Myrick believes his singing may have annoyed his kidnapper -- who eventually released the boy.

"He was probably irritated of me singing. He was telling me to shut up. He found somewhere far away from home and he told me to get out (of the car)," Myrick told hosts on V-103 Atlanta's morning show.

East Point SWAT Officer Lt. Cliff Chandler says what happened to Myrick is a first for him.

"I've been an officer for 17 years. This is the first kidnapping that I can actually say is a legitimate kidnapping that I've worked in my career. This is very, very rare," Lt. Chandler told hosts on V-103 Atlanta's morning show.

Myrick, who turned 10 years old on April 17th is now offering tips to help other children to be brave -- just like he was.

"If you want to be brave, do not fall for any tricks. If you see money -- just leave it there. You will find somebody else to get it," Myrick said.

On V-103 Atlanta's morning show, Myrick was made an honorary East Point Police Officer.
