Big prizes at "Wisconsin's Official State Championship" BBQ festival in Kenosha

KENOSHA (WITI) -- The Wisconsin State Barbecue Championship wrapped up on Saturday, August 23rd. The event is hosted by the Kenosha Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Kenosha YMCA.

The two-day festival was held on Kenosha's Lakefront and included a Kansas City Barbecue Society sanctioned barbecue competition, music entertainment, BBQ food, and a Community Challenge BBQ contest.

It brings in about forty teams from all over the midwest, all competing for about $9,000 in prizes.

But for the competitors, they say this really isn't about the money.

This is the fourth year for the event.

The official name for the event is the, "Grill Games Bar-B-Q Competition" -- But Governor Walker declared it Wisconsin's Official State Championship.
