Beaver Dam man arrested after leading police on pursuit
DODGE COUNTY (WITI) -- A 47-year-old Beaver Dam man was arrested Friday, April 19th after leading police on a high-speed chase following a traffic stop.
According to officials, a Dodge County Sheriff’s Department Patrol Deputy stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on US 151 near Forest Rd. in the Town of Calamus around 1:43 a.m.
After approaching the vehicle, the deputy saw what was believed to be a controlled substance. Officials say during the questioning the suspect fled the scene in his vehicle.
Deputies pursued the suspect at speeds in excess of 120 mph.
The pursuit continued into the City of Beaver Dam where the fleeing vehicle struck a curb, which deflated the right front tire. The suspect soon after parked his car and fled on foot.
A search was conducted with the assistance of the Beaver Dam Police Department and the Waupun Police Department K9 Unit.
Deputies made contact at the suspect’s home and obtained consent to search. Deputies found the suspect hiding in the basement where he was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect was taken into custody on a probation violation and request for charges of felony eluding, possession of a controlled substance, operating while suspended and obstructing an officer are being forwarded to the Dodge County District Attorney’s Office.
The suspect said the reason he fled was because he didn’t want to go back to prison. The total length of the pursuit was 5.2 miles.
