Barn fire in Shawano County kills at least 39 animals

SHAWANO — Cows, horses, cats, dogs and chickens were killed when fire destroyed a barn in Shawano County.

Sheriff's officials said the barn in the Town of Red Spring was fully engulfed when deputies arrived on scene about 4 a.m. Wednesday. Dec. 26.

Authorities said the barn was a total loss, and the animals inside were presumed dead. The owner said 30 cows and six horses were in the barn, along with some chickens, cats and dogs. At least 39 animals were thought to have perished.

The cause of the fire has not been determined, but is not believed to be suspicious.
