MILWAUKEE -- Thousands of Milwaukee-area youths receive backpacks filled with school supplies at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Back-To-School Festival on Saturday, August 8th.

For families with back-to-school budgets that are stretched thin, the festival provides a free backpack giveaway and school-supply giveaway.

Festival goers could also enjoy carnival games, youth talent contests, gospel performances, art and craft activities and food and beverages from vendors.

"The 21st year of the festival demonstrates how partnerships empower our youth and equip them for learning. We are grateful for the generous support of this year's sponsors and volunteers. The community really comes together to make sure our children get off to a good start," said President of King Advisory, Inc., Joshua Posey.

The event took place in King Park on W. Vliet Street from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
