Avalon Theatre opens this summer with old-fashioned movie marquee

BAY VIEW (WITI) -- Bay View's "Avalon Theatre" plans on reopening this summer with an old-fashioned movie marquee.

The theatre's owner, Lee Barczak is renovating the 85-year-old theater on S. Kinnickinnic Avenue. It has been closed since 2000.

The marquee will be 24 feet tall and 24 feet across over the entrance to the theater.

While the planned sign is not a replica of the original sign, it is in keeping with traditional theater signage from the late 1920s and a “welcome change” from the existing lighted marquee that is not original to the building.

The sign also will include electronic LED message boards on the sides of the marquee.
