Aurora Sinai Midwifery and Wellness Center celebrates 25th year

MILWAUKEE -- The Midwifery and Wellness Center at Aurora Sinai is celebrating its 25th year in Milwaukee. In that time, officials say they have helped out with nearly 10,000 births!

The center opened its doors Thursday, October 11th and offered cake and crafts for the public to celebrate.

Organizers say midwifery care is important because it lowers the risk of pre-term babies.

"Because of the care we provide women and girls, we have a 4% prematurity rate and 5% low birthrate compared to more than 10% and 16% of the population in the city," Certified Nurse Midwife Jacquelynn Tillett said.

According to the Milwaukee Health Department, over half of all infant deaths from 2005 to 2008 were related to premature births.
