Search for 16-year-old Joseph Torres continues
OZAUKEE CO. (WITI) -- The search continues in Ozaukee County for 16-year-old Joseph Torres -- an individual law enforcement officials are describing as "armed and dangerous." The search for Torres began Monday afternoon, after police responded to a home on Lakefield Road in the Town of Grafton for a report of a domestic violence incident in which shots were fired. One person has been taken into custody -- but Torres remains at large.
Tuesday, April 22nd was the first day back from Spring Break for students at Grafton High School -- but Torres wasn't among those who returned.
"We're obviously concerned about Joe, and hoping that he's okay and hoping that this resolves quickly," Grafton High School Principal Ken McCormick said.
Law enforcement officials are now releasing the name of the individual who was taken into custody in this case on Monday.
"The ex-boyfriend, who is Carlos Garcia, went to the residence on Lakefield Road for his children. It was a custody exchange. He ended up breaking down the door and that's where the domestic violence incident ensued after that," Ozaukee County Sheriff's Lt. Christy Knowles said.
Lt. Knowles says shots were fired, and Torres ran from the home.
He's been at large ever since.
"We believe he could be in the area -- could be in the Milwaukee area. We really don't know," Lt. Knowles said.
McCormick says he would ask Torres to call police if he were to see him.
"I think the quickest way to do that is for him to come forward and see what`s going on with this whole situation. There`s still a lot of questions out there I think everybody has as to what actually is happening," McCormick said.
"It`s always a concern to us because it was involved a weapon, in this case a handgun, where shots were fired. So it`s a serious offense. We don`t believe he`s out there to harm anyone else -- but we can`t be for sure," Lt. Knowles said.
Law enforcement officials say they want to speak with Torres to get his side of the story.
Garcia was arrested for battery-domestic violence related, criminal damage to property and theft. He has been released on bond.
If you have any information as to Torres' whereabouts, you're asked to call 911 or local law enforcement.
