Another Chick-fil-A! State's second stand-alone restaurant opens Thursday in Greendale

GREENDALE (WITI) -- The second of two new Milwaukee-area Chick-fil-A restaurants opened in Greendale on Thursday, September 25th, signaling the second free-standing store in Wisconsin.

To celebrate grand opening, Chick-fil-A again offered a chance for 100 adults to win 52 free Chick-fil-A meals for a year. Known for its great-tasting and high quality food made from fresh, simple ingredients, Chick-fil-A is marking the 50th anniversary of its signature Chick-fil-A sandwich.

The new Greendale location at 5351 S. 76th St. awarded a total of $30,000 in free food to the “First 100” adults in line for the store’s grand opening, as part of the store’s signature grand opening event.

A digital offer card loaded with a one-year supply of 52 free Chick-fil-A Meals was given to each of the first 100 eligible adults, ages 18 and older with identification, in line when the doors opened about 6:00 a.m. on Thursday.

New to Chick-fil-A, Joe Bauknecht will be the operator of the Greendale restaurant. Prior to joining Chick-fil-A, Bauknecht served in the United States Navy for almost 30 years, with his last assignment as Commanding Officer/Professor of Naval Science at the Marquette University NROTC Unit in Milwaukee. Bauknecht looks forward to continuing to serve the greater Milwaukee community in this new role.

“My team and I are eager to open our doors to serve the fresh, quality food that Chick-fil-A is known for,” said Bauknecht. “We are confident local residents will not only enjoy our food, but value the strong sense of community involvement that my employees and I instill in our daily work.”

The new Greendale Chick-fil-A becomes the second stand-alone in the state, along with the recently-opened Brookfield location at 12625 W. Capitol Dr., and joins the licensee location in Regency Mall in Racine, which was the first location to open in the state in 1981.

The new Chick-fil-A on South 76th Street is one of 93 new restaurants the chain plans to open across the country in 2014, creating more than 7,400 new jobs.

The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., serving a full breakfast menu until 10:30 a.m.

Featuring the chain’s newest interior and kitchen design, the new location has indoor seating for 100 with 16 additional outdoor seats as well as an indoor playground. The restaurant includes dual drive-thru ordering lanes which will expand its award-winning drive-thru service by enabling motorists to place their orders at separate screens and merge into a single lane to pay for and pick up food. With a majority of customers at Chick-fil-A stand-alone restaurants choosing drive-thru, the ability for two drivers to simultaneously order will mean quicker service.

It was 50 years ago that S. Truett Cathy (1921-2014) first began serving his boneless breast-of-chicken sandwich, pressure cooked and served on a buttered bun with two crucial pickles, at the Dwarf Grill in Hapeville, Ga. It was the signature menu item when the first Chick-fil-A restaurant opened in 1967 and though many other selections have been added over the past five decades, it remains the centerpiece of the menu as the chain has grown to more than 1,800 restaurants in 40 states and Washington, D.C.
