Abandoned, emaciated dog found in Caledonia has a new home

RACINE (WITI) --  An abandoned, emaciated dog who was found in a Caledonia man’s yard on October 2 has a new home!

After getting a call from the concerned man, police picked up and transported the one-year-old Pit Bull Terrier mix to an emergency veterinary clinic. He was later transported to the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) Racine Campus.

Dr. Nadine Langston, the full-time veterinarian at the WHS Racine Campus, said that Gus was terribly malnourished and frightened upon arrival.

He weighed only 38 lbs. and was weak from hunger.

But after just 12 days of top-notch medical care, nutritious food and a lot of TLC at the shelter, he had gained 12 lbs. and had made many new friends.

“He was a perfect patient,” Langston noted.

Stephanie Franczak, an employee at the emergency clinic where he was initially treated, immediately fell for Gus, and came in to adopt him as soon as he became available to go home.

Gus went home with a certificate for a free veterinary exam, initial vaccinations and a microchip. He also received neuter surgery at WHS.
